Hospitality: 5 Reasons That You Want To Know About It
Hospitality industry in nowadays is world wide and it is a very important industry especially for business. Many young peoples chose to study this course because it could help them to get jobs beyond hotel & restaurant. However, it’s not an easy job after all in hospitality industry especially working in hotel; long working hours, guest’s frustration, higher stress, have to work during people holiday or festival moment.
Many peoples were thought of Hospitality is all about hotel & restaurant, because peoples used to call it hotel management & culinary art instead of Hospitality studies. Therefore, peoples probably would think studying this course and working during peoples having their great time is quite suffering.
However, there are many things in Hospitality that you could do but not just hotel & restaurant. Today I want to share with readers some fulfillment & benefits that you might consider to take this course, because you want to apply what you had learnt in action just like I do.
The knowledge is broad When you studying Hospitality, you’re not only learning from hotel & restaurant; there are also culinary, event, tourism, and other subjects like marketing, financial, geography, strategic management, enterprise and so on. That’s why many peoples studied the course but they could work in other industries instead of Hospitality industry. It would be a lot of fulfillments if you know how to use them well.
Peoples’ happy because of you Hospitality taught us many things of management and practical, it could help us to handle our job better. However, the main meaning is making us to serve people better; customer’s service is the main purpose in this industry. When I working in hotel, I used to talk to guests and tried to serve them well with what I learnt during my course.
I remember one of my great fulfillments is when I handle a Taiwanese family, they are first time travelling to Malaysia and their next stop is to Johor. They are vegetarian and they were looking for vegetarian restaurant in Johor, I told them give me one day to help them look for it. I took my off duty time to search for them and make a list for them and my colleagues (in case someone ask again).
The family thanked me and wrote a good comment to my employer, I keep on my good work and got many good comments for guests. Moreover, I feel proud when elder guests called me Sir and personally complement me for what I done to them. Almost all the staffs in the resort know about me and the head departments always bring my name up in their meeting with a lot of satisfaction. Even the Human Resource manager “scolded” me for working so hard (many of times no break, no eat but just working). I went to three departments; Front Office, F&B and Housekeeping. I have experienced many things and gained fulfillments which money couldn’t buy.
After six months in the resort, I decided to leave because I want to let myself to explore more and tried to apply my knowledge & experience in others area because Hospitality’s knowledge is not only could apply on hotel & restaurant.
Event & charity Event is my major subject in my degree course, and I started my first business with my friends at the same time. I have done many events during the course either with University or business partners.
I always remember one of the events I have done in last year; it is also the first charity for our business. I combined my Hospitality skills with my partner’s business skill in the event, I in charge on one booth with my idea of doing charity. Anyone donate money even just one cent will get a small Shiseido mask or a key chain and the money will go to charity. The reason I said combining with my partner’s business skill is we got the supplies of masks & key chains with an extremely low price.
Actually we are started up everything from our own hands & efforts, we able to break even after three months of the launching date and we done our first charity to help others. That’s a great fulfillment which money couldn’t buy. My idea is like a CSR (Corporate Social Responsibilities), we took something from our customers in business and so we want to give back some to the peoples; people who donate will get souvenir gifts and orphanage home will receive the money from donation.
The best job in the world Have you heard of the best job in the world, it is actually came from Hospitality industry. What I trying to say is tourism, the job is to travel many places while working. Travel agent & flight attendant; they are going to travel without traveling fee, getting paid of salary and their job is to enjoy the trip while working.
Achieving your goals When you choose to study a course, you’re definitely having your goals to achieve. The purpose of I studied Hospitality is becoming a consultant to help smaller merchants with my skills & abilities. From the beginning in Diploma, I keep walking each step closer to my goal and I have achieved it. Hospitality is my tool for becoming what I want to do, exploration, networking and the most important charity.
The meaning of Hospitality is providing cares to peoples, but many peoples are only care about money. I know what I want to do and I keep doing it, I started up a project of using business strategy to do charity; CSR. Moreover, I and my partners just had done a project and we going to donate some of the money to World Vision Malaysia in next year because we just missed the 30-hours famine event.
*I started up my own business is not because I want to be my own boss, but I want to do something when I’m still young. Because when we get older, we’ll have no intention to do it and we will leave aside our goals or dreams.
